The Math GuyIntegrated Programme (IP) Mathematics Tuition
If you have enrolled in a school that offers an Integrated Programme, you will find that your syllabus is accelerated. If you struggle with mathematics, joining a tuition class that teaches the mainstream express syllabus might not address your needs. Some places mix express students with IP students but this scenario most likely ends up being frustrating for both groups.
The Likely Problem
You didn't use to struggle with mathematics, but now it's unsettling how much harder the subject seems. Don't worry if you feel like you're drowning, you aren't the only one facing this problem. IP schools move at a blistering pace. If you've made it to an IP school, you're likely a gifted learner, but we are all human. At some point, you got distracted, or perhaps you didn't quite understand a concept or two, and all of a sudden, the class has already sped ahead.
Addressing the Issue
You're probably quite a bit behind and you might be embarrassed to let anyone find out exactly how rusty your basic concepts are. There is really no need to feel that way. You just need a recap, perhaps with clearer explanations and some quick, specific practice so that you can better feel the outlines of what the concepts are all about. Then, we'll slowly introduce higher difficulty questions that you typically find in your schools' material. The most important thing is to constantly relate these questions back to the basics, because the jump in difficulty from the basic to hard questions is sometimes so great that it feels like different concepts altogether. Don't worry, there's always a way to bridge that gap with intermediate questions that escalate in difficulty in a more manageable manner.
I'm not offering a quick fix, the process is usually gradual. But you'll likely find math less intimidating than you do right now. Occasionally, a student might not even feel like he/she is making progress because it feels too easy. But that's just the result of finding the right pacing.
